GD Tulip Festival

I should begin with a map, so you understand just how close the Tulip Festival is to my house. Less than 29 miles, says Mapquest. See for yourself:

(Okay, you can't really tell too much from that map, but trust me, we're pretty close. Closer than a trip to Mt. Hood or the Beach, or the airport, or Gresham for that matter. My work is 23 miles from home, so we're used to commuting)

That said, it should've taken us about a half hour to get to the TF. Turns out, when you go on the hottest, nicest day we've had all year, it actually takes 2 hours and 15 minutes. In the car, in the heat, with a 14 month old strapped inside, a mommy losing her patience, a daddy joking about turning around after an hour and a half. It was 83 degrees, according to the in-car thermometer. However you look at it, it was too f'ing hot to be dealing with the single-lane of traffic backed up for 15 miles to get in. It closed at 6pm. We arrived on Saturday at 5:10. We got a few pictures, but no one was happy. Check that, Lila was happy to be out of her carseat, walking around among big kids, and dogs, and random tents of artisans selling their crafts. I tried to get her ice cream for being such a good sport... but the line was another 2 hours and 15 minutes long, so she settled for a frozen (not really frozen with the heat) lemonade. Here are the photos we worked really hard for. I'm still bitter and will not go back, no matter how hard she begs when she's 12. (okay, who am I kidding, I'm sure the kid will get whatever she wants, but I'm going to make sure she REALLY wants it). GD tulips.

It should be noted, we didn't even BUY tulips at the event because the lines were Out of Control. We stopped at Safeway on the way home to pick up some stuff for dinner, and my sweetie secretly bought some lovely purple-ish tulips for me. How sweet. I just hope they didn't come from that lousy farm. The flowers are still going strong in our living room, probably more so than any we would've bought at the festival, wilting in the heat in the car on the way home.

tulips? member doyle moffitt? i do. i thought of him the other day when i was cutting a skin cancer off of a guy called doyal something or other who likes to play golf and make skin cancers.. oh yeah, and tulips.. i brought you tulips to your crappy apartment on that one street near the berg and 302 hitt, which reminded me of doyle moffitt and of your famed career at the schnucks.. what was the street name? it in some way allowed us to make reference to the nearby home for mentally retarded citizens but i can't for the life of me remember and i'm too lazy to look it up... just tell me and put me out of my nostalgia misery.
